SUM OF £280,737
SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS

WELLINGTON, December 21
A total rudjlitional expenditure of. £230,737 is provided in the Supplementary Estimates for the year 193334, which were tabled in the House cf Representatives to-night. Of this amount £205,8G6 is chargeable against the ordinary revenue account, £20,052 against the Public Works Fund, and £54,819 against separate accounts. Credits in aid total £25,832. Although the Finance- Bill No 2, passed by the. House of Representatives to-day, gave the leader of the Opposition £l6O a. year in addition to his salary as a member of Parliament, actually he will receive only £36, for the. grant of £124 for secretarial assistance is deducted from the new grant. A member of the Government said to-night, however, that it was proposed to make a grant of £l6O in addition to both salary and secretarial allowance, and that the latter vote was shown under a general heading in another- section of the estimates.
A subscription of £438 to the international relief union organisation, established for the assistance of countries suffering, earthquake disasters, is shown in the vote for the Prime Minister’s Department. '
The salary of the Secretary to the Treasury is increased by £2OO to £1342.
Additional expenses of the Customs Tariff Commission, including an a/dclitional allowance of £270 to the Controller of Customs as chairman, are £ISOO.
A sum of £63 is provided for the refund of sales tax on artificial poppies to be sold for the benefit of returned New Zealand soldiers.
A sum of £llOO is provided for an additional payment to acclimatisation societies in consideration of their servees to the Government in the administration of the Animals Protection and Game Act.
The change in th.& High Commissionership will cost the Dominion £IOOO in travelling expenses. There is a vote of £SOO to cover the expenses of Sir Thomas Wilford’s return to New Zealand, and an equal amount is voted to Sir James Parr for his voyage to England.

The expenses of the visit of the Rarotongan Arikis to New Zealand in January-February are given as £3OO, of which part is recoverable. A sum of £7OOO is provided for additional expenses under the Mortgagors Relief Act, Including £6OOO as fees to members, and £IOOO travelling expenses.
For the maintenance cf public buildings, there is a vote of £IO,OOO. Of this sum £3COO has been allocated to Parliament Buildings. The vote for the Department of Health totals £26,250. Most of this is absorbed by subsidies to hospital boards, for which £20,000 has been provided. This is additional to the subsidies already voted. For the settlement of unemployed workers there is a vote of £10,000.. The unemployment fund vote is £14,620. In the unauthorised expenditure account there is allocated £1772 18s 9d as expenses incurred in the exchange of Australian silver coin for English mintage. There is a grant of £9OO to cover the expenses incurred during the visit to Great Britain of the Secretary to the Treasury, aud the financial advisei. T„ addition there is a vote of £lO6 3s 3d as official expenses incurred in the visit of the Minister for Finance and the Secretary to the Treasury to London. . , To cover the expe-sos of the ministerial visit to England by the Hon W. Downie Stewart, there is a- vote 0 f £I6OO. Mr T. R. Aicken, who accompanied him as private secretary, is voted £7OO. and the Minister’s attendant. Mr AV. T.
