PRICES REALISED YESTERDAY

To-day's sale of live stock at dington was a Christmas double market, and except in some cattle lines, prices were satisfactory to vendors.

There were four thousand five hundred fat sheep penned, mostly ewes. There wag a noticeable improvement in the price of prime wethers and ewes, of which there was a Scarcity. Other grades maintained late rates. Two thousand three .hundred fat lambs were yarded, , practically all suitable for the butchers’ Xmas requirements. The butchers acquired the bulk of .ijie yarding. The javerago price was about 7jcl per lb, being the best lamb market this season. Extra heavy prime lambs sold to 26s lOd, prime 2ls to 245, medium 18s to 20s fid, light from 15s.

The store /sheep comprised mostly wethers. The market was firm for all grades. Consequent upon the recent rains, only 360 fat cattle were penned, a miscellaneous collection, many being passed-in lots of the previous week. Prime .bandy weights were keenly competed for. Other grades were just ag hard to quit a,s at last sale- Best prime handy weighty fetched from 23s to 26s per cwt., medium quality handy weights 17s to 19s, .plain to 16s, best ,cpws and heifers 16s to 18s per cwt., and' occasionally up to 235, plain from 14s, unfinished cows frqm 10s. Best prme for steers was £ll 2s 6d ; best heifers sold to £8 7s 6d ; heavy priine •cows to £7 2s 6d. There was a heavy yarding of porkers. Export wer. e operating as usual and competition wa s keen atlate rates. Few baconers were offered, owing to the difficulty o.f slaughtering before fhs holidays. Values were maim. 1 ained, however, prices being: Porkers 27s 6d .to 32s 6d, heavier to 39s 6d ; choppers 30 s to 48s 6d ; baooner« 44s 6d to 5.1 s id, heavy to 56s 6d. Store pigs were firm.
