DUNEDIN WOOL SALE OPENS

DUNEDIN, December 20
Expectations were exceeded at the j first Dunedin wool sale, which commenced this morning. Altogether 29,003 bales were offered all the purchasing countries .being represented, and tile frantic bidding was reminiscent of old times.
The chief competition in the first ■Catalogue came from Germany and France, Bradford also operating freely, and Japan with closer limits- • Prices showed a definite advance on Christchurch especially for halfbred. Phenomenal prices were realised on pieces and necks, where as it was the exception at last December’s sale to reach double figures. Failure to realise this was the exception o n this occasion. The first catalogue comprised ‘o Jo bales. Brokers’ values were exceeded, the only passings being a small lot of very low crossbred wool.
