WELLINGTON, December 20. The House of Representatives met ; rt 10 o’clock.
Mr R. Semple (L. Wellington East), asked the Prime Minister whether it was intended that the Minister of Native Affairs should retain h% position of Native Minister, while the commission was sitting “in judgment upon himself, and bis Department,” and, it so, did tbp Prime Minister not think that such a course would be detrimental to a fearless, free, and impartial inquiry.
“Certainly not,” Mr Forbes replied. “I have already informed the House that, notwithstanding the Native Minister’s expressed willingness to resign Ill's portfolio,;tile’ position, in my opinion, "does hot reader such a step necessary.”
