COMPENSATION IN RELIEF,

WELLINGTON, December 18,

Reporting oxi the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill introduced by the late Mr H. E, Holland, providing ror the payment of compensation to relief workers, the committee stated that it had not, in the-time at its disposal, had the opportunity of fully considering the whole aspect of the law governing payment of injured workers, but in view of the provision now made by the Unemployment Boax'd in meeting claims for compensation to relief workers incapacitated, m all cases where the board carried compensation liability, it recommended that the Bill should not be allowed to proceed this session.-

RAILWAY PASSES FOR BLIND The Petitions Committee gave a most favourable recommendation to the request that the inmates of the Institute for the Blind should be given free railway passe? to return to their homes once a year. SUPERANNUATION PAYMENTS - The total annual payments to superannuitants in receipts of more than £3OO a year is £94,783, according to a return presented in the House today in response to a motion by Mr H. S. S. Kyle The amounts chargeable to each superannuation fund are as follows: —Police, £2481; railways, £26,324; education (teachers), £21,561; and Public Service, £44,327. SMALL GRAZING RUNS. Further facilities for extension of (eases of small graznjr runs is. contained in the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill. The legislation of 1931 made provision for a temporary extension for periods up to five years of leases due to expire .by .March, 1934, but the provision is now extended to March, 1936. A similar concession in respeftt to licenses fo r occupation with right to purchase is extended until January 1, 1936. SOLDIER SETTLEMENT

Authority is given in the Lands “Washing-Up Bill for the Christchurch City Council to grant a lease of land in a council reserve to the Returned Soldiers AssOcation for a term of thirtv years at a peppercorn rental. Th. 3 land is to be. used for establishing a returned soldiers’ and sailors' settlement, and the council may include in the terms of lease provision for . the right of re-entry and for the preservation of the amenities of the district.
