ENGLAND ENVELOPED IN FOG
NO PROSPECT .OF A BREAK

With the exception of Southern Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, the whole /of England and' North Wales remains enveloped in' fog. There is no -prospect as yet of any break in the spell of cold weather which has almost the whole of Europe in its grip. Many English rivers whose levels are low are covered with ice, which is also forming on. {he Upper Thames.
Incidents in the severe European winter include wolves raiding Yugoid'P v villages, killing cattle, and wounding a peasant, who went to the rescue armed with an axe.
A sentry at Aquilla (Italy) • was struck by lightning and killed, his bayonet acting as a conductor. Ten thousand gallons of wine, intended for a wedding feast at Nagvkoeroes (Hungary) frt./c, and wa* .served in chunks, which the guests thawed on a fire.
