INDECENT ’ ASSAULT CHARGE

WELLINGTON, December 19
A .grave offence "at Day’s Bay against a gir- of 4| years was admitt3d by John Phillip Crompton Collett, a garage employee, at Petone Police Court to-day. Collett, who is a single man, aged 33, living at Wellington, further pleaded guity to another cnarge of indecent assault against a girl at Belmont.
A witness stated that following on a complaint by the mother at Day’s Bay that her litte girl had been assaulted, he saw the accused mounting a bicycle. Collett made to strike him, and ride off, . but witness pulled the bicycle from under him, ad the accused ran to. the end of the wharf. In answer to witness’ call, several other men .came, arid managed •to overpower the accused. ’
A doctor stated the girl’s injuries were serious, and might lead to grave
consequences
