WELLINGTON, December 19. Eleven local bills were passed by the House of ■ Representatives yesterday. The Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, Sales Tax Amendment) Bill, Locaf Legisation Bill,' and Native Purposes Bill were introduced by tlie Governor-General’s message, and read, the first time. ’ :
Explaining-tlie Sales Tax f Amendment Bill, the Hon.-.J. G; Coates said it)' was introduced for the purpose, of 1 simplifying,- the administration of the Sales Act, passed 'last session. It did- not propose any major alteration in the system -of collecting the tax.
The Native Purposes Bill; inter alia, transfers to the Native/Land Settle- , ment Board a number of powers for-,. mer.ly held by the Minister-of Native " Affairs.- •- • •

Moving .the second reading of the
Motor Spirits '(Regulation of Prices) Bill, the Hon. G. W. Forbes said the measure gave effect to the recent recomendation of the Industries and Commerce Committee. He could assure the petrol companies on behalf of the Government, that they would, receive -fair treatment. , Mr M. J. Savage said the hill was on the'right lines, ' It, was read the Second time.
