‘TRUTH.”
FARTHING DAMAGES AWARDED

A libel suit which was brought by Sir Hugh Denison, the chairman of the Associated Newspapers Limited, igainst the “Truth” and . “Sportsman” Limited, to recover ten thousand pounds damages, concluded to-day ’after a long hearing. The jury returned a verdict in favour of the plaintiff, assessing the damage's at one’farthing. The matter of costs was' hrid over.
The plaintiff based his action on an article in “Truth” which, by innuendo, charged him of abusing his position as chairman of the Royal Empire Society and also alleging that he was responsible for the .publication of a series or articles in the “Sun” and ”Dail:y Telegraph” caljnua'ttxl tot cause war in the Empire. The plaintiff further contended that “Truth” ,md inferred that h e had used these two papers for mercenary and dishonest purposes.
