MAORI RELIEF
DEPUTATION- to minister
(Per Press Association—Copyright).
WELLINGTON, December 14
Replying to a deputation of Maoris regarding relief works, the Hon. Mr Adam Hamilton said there was no desire on tile part of the Government to discriminate unfairly between the Maori and Pakeha allocations, but where Maoris had a piece of land and a dwelling, that could not be overlooked.
Mr Tirikatene said that such property was a liability. ' -..1 Mr Hamilton replied that it was not always so. He could appreciate the fact that rents were not being received. There was no intention of being harder on the Maori race, hut the desire of the Government was to give the greater allocation where the greater need existed.
