DISASTROUS FIRE
TIMBER YARDS IN MELBOURNE.
EIGHT CASUALTIES OCCUR

The timber yards of R. and J. Liuary, of Praliran, were razed to the ground by fire. The damage is estimated at about £15,000. Firemen assisted by hundreds ot‘citizens fought a hopeless battle for two hours. Six volunteers were injured by falling timbers and iron. Two firemen received electric shocks.

RAETIHI, December 14
A disastrous fire' broke out yesterday afternoon at Goldfinch . and Coy’s sawmill, which was not working, as the bush was cut out between Ohakune and Rangataua. There wa s no water in the vicinity, and the timber stacks were soon abazo. About 100,000 superficial feet of timber were destroyed. The firm i s a heavy loser.
