A Maori, Thompson Waiwiri, 20, pleaded guilty to intoxication while in charge of a motor lorry, and was fined £2O by Mr Salmon, the Magistrate, today, and was prohibited* from holding a license for twelve months. It was revealed that Waiwiri never held a license He admitted having fifteen handles of beer during a:few hours in Manaia township prior to his collision with a stationary vehicle, wliich he contended, wa-s due to defective steering gear.
