Tho County Overseer reported % follows :
LAKE KANIERI ROAD
Rep r-i-rs were effected to worn spots on the road surface between Kanieri and the Forks a- distance of four miles, using suitable -material from the roadside. Unemployed labour assisted to clear encroaching growth a distance of five chains, and clean watertables in various places n distance of six chains Casual labour was employed ■ in-remov ing a- slip from the road on top of S'ip Hill. The -slip blocked the ro a d to vehicle traffic, and contained 35 cub'O yard s of pug and other soft material A platform culvert with ten .feet 'Waterway in width and four feet in height, was constructed :at the foot of the terrace 150 yards west of Ward Road. The old culvert removed was five feet in; width and two feet, in height, and wa 6 not large enough to prevent flood water crossing the roadway. The culvert \v?-s practically completed excepting the erection of the handrails. Other work performed consisted of the inspection of bridges and culverts on the ro'pd, land some very/ defective , timber was'found in the piles and cap of the eastern abutment in Coal Creek bridge.
KANIERI-KOITERANG.I ROAD
Kanieri-Koitcrangi road. . raising was .commenced ,and a - 'fair quantfCy vi gravel .carted out and spread on the road. .Unemployed labour wap-',engaged in bpening/a -d r ain on thee eastern side of the road below Harris Creek bridge No. 2. Repairs were.effected to motorworn holes 'overa distance 'of seven miles, using' 50 -cubic yfrds- of. .suitable gravel from' the roadside . dumps. In addition, portions of the. road surface were repaired with'4l cubic yards °f gravel. The Kokatahi, bridge - .repairs were started on. the 15th -of. the month, and.the following-defective timber was removed and replaced - . Bx 4 £s[ 16; 15x5 1/26 and. 8/19 ; 12x10 1/16. Ro.vatahi bridge protection was completed the specified distance excepting . willow Staking the. lower portion of jthe bank. Encroaching growth; was cleared from the abutments of White Creek bridggj and :?.n inspection qf stringers showed that 2/26 fee; by 14x9 stringers will
require renewing. The power grader iv.as .engaged ju grading displaced material .from the outside to the road centre from the terminus of the highway to the southern abutment of Koka 1 t-ahi bridge. UPPER KOKATAHI ROAD.
A portion of Upper Kokatahi road was repaired by filling motor-worn holes with fine gravel over a distance of 60 chains, 8 cubic yards of gravel being used for the purpose. WATAROA SETTLEMENT ROAD.
Repairs were effected to motor-worn holes over the full length of road, suitable material being used from the
roadside
OVERSEER’S MONTHLY REPORT
DISTRICT ROADS,
The County Overseer reported as follows :
Unemployed labour was engaged in repairing .Chesterfield, Kumara to K-api-tea, and Kumara Roads, clearing a creek, at Kumara Junction, assisting with the construction -of, the baths at Klhma,' r a ; clearing and removing loose stone and cleaning water tables on Awatuna Road ; 'clearing gorge and repairing motor worn holes on Arahura Valley and. One Mile .Roads; assisting to fill fjr.avel for .repairs 'to Spencer Road, cleaning and clearing watertables on Blue Spur Arahura Road. Casual labour attended to repairs to the decking of Four Mile Creek bridge. CENTRA!. RIDING. Kokatahi bridge repairs were in Hand on the 13th of the month, and the .following timber removed ■ and replaced, planking Bx 4, 44/16. Trapaome 6 15x5 1/26 8/19. Struts 12x10 1/16, Kokatahi bridge protection: This work w'as completed,' and 40 yards of manuka scrub, 10 yards of stone and three wire nets used in constructing a loaded fascine 48 feet in length enclosed within a, continuous wire net; also coating bvnk.witli manuka scrub.which was willow staked after completion. . Dorothy Falls Road improvement: This work was .'commenced and several small .slips removed from the road, watertables cleaned, approach in and out Granite Creek' reduced .and improved, ■also partial competipn of widening, 100 links. ■■■'/•;• • . . ' Kanieri-Noiterangi.- Road , raising, was commenced -and-continued until I ..the end of 'the..' Tpoii'thj and.’ 13, chains, oh metalling almost, completed. ■
MAINTENANCE
Casual, and unemployed' labour was engaged .in repairs to, Whitcombe! Valley, McArthur, Municipal -and constructing a ,12-inch diameter' .two course concrete pipe culvert-.; casual, labour \yas employed repairing portions of Neilsen ■Road and widening , a .-drain on Carnel.baek Road j- also ’, improving., the eastern approach .to Hokitika G°rge sus-, pension bridge,' , cleaning and deepening a drain at Roiterangi- -and a creek outlet to a clulvert : o'n Rahieri-Koiterangi
IRoad. Unemployed labour was employ* erl in forming a portion of Mahinapui '.Road through the goii links. Casual labour attended to & portion 01 the repairs necessary to Rack Greek frond.
SOUTHERN 'RIDING
L ( i Fontaine 'Road, extension : Mr A. Barrett, contractor, completed the ‘formation and metalling from peg 35 chains to peg 40 chains, the present terminus of La Fontaine Road metalling. Petersen 'Road metalling: Mr J. Adamson, contractor, has the timber for the culvert on the ground, :and .ha s also completed ten chains of metalling.
MAINTENANCE
/Repairs were effected to portions of Wait ah i, Settlement, Wataroa Fiat, and Richardson Roads. The resident roadman at 'Harihari attended to repairs to roads in the Inter-Wanganui district. No. 1 lorry carted 2/27 feet by 16x8 stringers, and a quantity of 9x2 ,traffic plunking, for repairing to Purcell.C l ’«ek bridge, La Fontaine Road. Unemployed labour was employed on repairs to Wataroa tracks, Three 'Mile Track, and Okarito Road.

The plan of ro d deviation at Koiterangi lime kiln was approved, and the chairman and .. Crs. Keenan and Ches term an authorised to sign.
It avas' decided to call fresh tenders for benzine supply and ironmongering supplies.
It wa s agreed to have repairs to Sedclon’s Terrace, White and Wall roads put in hand as scon as circumstances permitted. The chairman extended the season’s greetings to members and staff. Mr Jeffries acknowledged the compliment and joined with Mr Murdoch in hoping for a more prosperous year ahead for all.
The next meeting of. the full Council was fixed for January 16 (the third Tuesday in the month). The meeting concluded at 9.50 p.m.
