BEEF RESTRICTION,
BRITISH IMPORTS
FURTHER REDUCTION IN ?334.
(United Pr°ss Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)
LONDON, .December. 11
It is now fairly clear that Britain will endeavour further to restrict imports after June 30. Dominion inert circles are alarmed at the strength of the restriction propaganda.
VThe says: Oxford Colleges are calling for measures to force the public to buy English beef, pointing cut that it will be forced to /buy it in the absence of au alternative.
The paper adds: The colleges discreetly leave the alternative namelesi
The “Daily Mail,” also discussing th e communication of the Oxford bursars, says : Curtailment of supplies of beef involve difficulties with certain Dominions and Argentine, but action 'must be taken as quickly as possible. At prominent meat authority said that better prices such as a strong Meet Board in Britain would ensure, would more than offset its email cost.
The absence of the Board was responsible for Australian meat selling at twopence a pound below New' ■ Zealand. Other authorities declare that it is unfair to blame the Dominion imports for the weakness of the market, The truth is that English growers thcmselveg are breeding so much rubbish that prices for good quality beef are pulled down in sympathy. A further factor unsettling the market is the arrival of Canadian live cattle. 1500 of which have just been landed in England, many ready for killing. Mr Bruce has not yet been officially approached as to the imposition oi further beef restrictions.
