RUM RUNNING

The kidnapped members of the crew of the Canadian coastguard cutter were liberated when their captors were arrested by the French authorities at St. Pierre, A ' Under cover of darkness the rum ship Kroinhout slipped into the little French possession off the coast of Newfoundland, which had been warned to look out for the vessel. The police arrested the “captain and crew of the Kromhout.
The Kroinbout had been captured by Coastguards and a crew of four men was pu& aboard her, with instructions to take her into port under arrest. Th e rum-runners however, suddenly attacked the coasi guards, overcame them, and cutting adrift quickly made off to sea, being then outside the range of the coastguard (utter’s guns.
