ATTEMPTED SUICIDE CHARGE.

CHRISTCHURCH, November 29

Mrs Bertha Nathalia Pike, of Newcastle. Street ,Linwood, and her eight-weeks-old baby girl were admitted to tho hospital nr, noon, both suffering Prom wounds in \the throat. The woman’s injury is very slight.

The husband was summoned from work, and he found Ids wife and child in the kitchen suffering from the wounds in the throat. A doctor and the police were then summoned. The baby had previously been ill ill health. Th*» mother is stated .to have been worrying.

The mother and child were taken to Christchurch Hospital. The child was in a serious condition, hut the mother was treated a.s an out-patient. The child has- been ill for some time, and the, mother has been worrying about its health. The husband, Halwin Beckett Pike, railway fireman, was called to lhs liolile shortly before nine o’clock, aihl found hi s wife sitting ih the kitchen With the child in her amts, both With Wouhds in the throat; • Pilfe immediately suhimoned a doctor aitd informed the jjdUcb. MfS Pike wag charged in the Magistrates Court this afternoon With attempting to commit shicide. Slhe Whs remanded in custody till December 5.
