The effects of the recent rebellion in Burma are reflected in the serious crime figures for last year, when there were 10/9 murders, averaging more than two daily. Th e police administration report siiJ's the percentage of murders is 10.3 to a hundred thousand of population, compared with an average of 10.8 in 180 large American cities. A surprise census, taken between midnight on Saturday and 2 o’clock on Sunday morning estimates there are eight thousand homeless in Madras streets, including beggars, coolies, ana rickshaw pullers.
