Mr W. J. Delaney, of the Hatter’s Flat Mining Company, met with an accident on Saturday afternoon, when be was hit with a wire rope and was thrown 20 feet. He sustained broken ribs and internal injuries, and will 'be confined t*o bed for some considerable time.
A Christmas tree evening was held in St. Paul’s Methodist Schoolroom last evening when there was a very large attendance. An enjoyable! programme was presented comprising social items and games. During the evening Father Christmas) arrived land distributed a large number of gifts from the wellladen tree. A thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by all.
A serious accident happened to Air John P. Coulson yesterday afternoon at the box factory on Gibson Quay. While at work at a planing bench, ho slipped on some shavings, and in trying to save himself, liis left hand went forward and was caught in some cogs. As a result it was found necessary to remove the whole of the large finger of the left hand, and the first joint of the third finger.
At the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., Henry Barrett, of no fixed abode, who was arrested at Greymouth on Monday, was charged that, on November 11th, 1933, at Greymouth, he did steal one overcoat, valued at £l, the property of 'William Robert Moore. He pleaded guilty to the offence. De-tective-Sergeant Holmes said that on the date menioned accused went into Dr Bennett’s waiting room, and whd 0 a patient was in the. surgery lie stole his overcoat which had since been recovered. Accused, who had served terms of imprisonment from 14 days to two years was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in Paparua Prison.
