HISTORIC PIANO

LINK WITH THE FAMOUS R.L.S

WELLINGTON, November 22

A link with the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, in the shape of an old-fashioned, upright Doerner piano, with ornate decoration on the front and side panels, is at present in Wellington. The instrument is fnentioned in at least one of the biographies of Stevenson. It was ordered through a Olasgow firm and made especially at Doerner’s for Stevenson, It was then sent to him at Samoa.

On its arrival in Wellington, after tlie novelist’s death, the piano was handed over to a firm of piano dealers for preservation and treatment. bio more was done than was necessary to preserve it and slightly revive the polish. Naturally the piano is riddled with borer, but it has now been, treated in such a way that its life should be considerably, prolonged.
