“SPIRIT” STORY
VOICE OF JUSTICE McCARDIE
“I WANT TO AMEND THE LAW” ~An amazing story of a “spirit” message- from the late Mr Justice McCardie, as related by Mrs Champion de Crespigny, was told to the Sunday Chronicle a few weeks ago. The famous “bachelor judge,” according to Mbs de Crespigny, “returned” at a- London seance of the British College of Psychic science, of which she is lion, principal, the medium being Mr Gerald de Beauepaire.
Mrs de Crespigny recalls that sne was one of the chief witnesses in the libel .action brought by Mrs Meurig Morris, the trance medium. Sir Henry McCardie heard the suit and dismissed it, before it went before the House of Lords. This was only a few months before his death.
Now according to- Mrs de Crespigny,. Six* Henry McCardie “controlled” the medium with difficulty and dictated a serie-s of short, terse messages.
“I want to speak“to the world,” he said. “It is difficult to speak calmly. I want to come back as I was. I am advocating the truth. I want them to recognise me. I want to speak with the direct voice.
“I want to come to amend the law. Sometimes when 1 was passing sentence a voice would say in my ear, ‘lt’s not fair.’ I knew it was the law, but I knew it was not fair.
“I did not honour women as 1 should have done, but they did not play the part in my. life they should have. I find it trying to be doubted. Eventually I will speak.” The “Spirit” of Mr Justice McCardie, according to the story, referred to the libel action instituted by Mrs Morris and spoke of the dramatic seen© when the medium was entranced in court, and he ordered her to be taken out. t
■ Mrs de Crespigny is well known for her inquiries into spiritualism and she says she believes that she was truly in contact with Mr Justice McCardie. At the end of the seance the medium was, she says, “very much exhausted, perspiration pouring from his face.”
