ACTION IN FAVOUR OF PEACE.

NEW YORK, November 25
On the eve of his embarkation for Moscow, the Soviet Foreign Minister, Maxim Litvinoff, declared to-night that the recognition of Russia by the United States will - weigh the scales in favour of peace. S-an-ding beneath the Stars and •Stripes and the Red Flag of Russia, at a banquet at the American Russian Chamber of Commerce, this man, who helped to build the Communist nation, was surrounded by such prominent New Yoi’kers as John W. Davis, Kermit Roosevelt, Mrs Ogden Reid, and S. Parker Gilbert.
Thg night was one of many dramatic moments. 'At the conclusion of the American National Anthem, many of the forally attired -throng started to sit down, but an organ halted them as the gilded ballroom of the Waldorf (Hotel was filled with the strains of “The Internationale,” the &nth e m of the .Soviet Union.
LITVINOFF TO VISIT ITALY,
ROME, . November 05,
At the invitation of Signor Mussolini, who apparently desires to reintroduce Russia into the European comity of Nations, M. Litvinoff will visit Italy on December 2.
