WOOL INDUSTRY

EXCELLENT AUCKLAND CLIP (Per Press Association, Copyright):

AUCKLAND, November 23

The catalogue for the first Auckland wool sale, of the season, which opens on Monday, closed with an offering of 23,782 hales. This is slightly less than the limit which was fixed at 25,000 bales, and compares with the offering of 28,687 bales at the opening sale last wear. The quality of the clip is the best for some years. PRICES FIRM IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, November 23. At to-day’s wool sales, 12,693 bales were offered, and 11,575 were sold, also 873 balers privately.' The market closed very firm for the descriptions! Competition was general, and well sustained, Greasy merino made 27Jd for five halos from Rye Park. The average price of greasy wool at this week’s auction has been £2O 3s 5d per bale, or 15.9 pence per lb. HUGE MERINO CONSUMPTION LONDON, November 22. The “Yorkshire Observer” says: Consumption of merinos in the West Riding is terrific, being a leading factor of - the absorption of the abnormal Australia and South African clips. Bradford leads the present upward movement, which German buyers strengthen. The new season’s South African Wools are arriving slowly. It is over-early to estimate the clip, but in conjunction .with Australia, rthe trade' anticipates a decline of 700,000 bales. Recent wool production was absorbed in remarkable fashion. Higher merino prices will rapidly clear the New Zealand surplus.

ANTICIPATIONS EXCEEOED LONDON, November 22. The strength of the sales slightly exceeded the most favourable anticipav inns. Germany fully .supported Yorkshire’s lead. France and Belgium were less active. There are indications that the strength will be maintained, though the American situation causes uncertainty. MELBOURNE PRICES MELBOURNE, November 23. Wool sales: A very strong market was again experienced. Prices remained firm at the best levels of the week. Merino realised to 24,} pence, Comeback wool'to 26} pence.
