MORE CONFIDENCE SHOWN
(Per Press Association—Copyright.)
HUNTLY, November 22,
More confidence is evidently 'being shown by the police -engaged cm the Ruawaro mystery regarding a possible solution of the -case. While the search for the body of Mr Samuel Pender Lakey hacl yielded no further result late this evening, the police are s.iD occupying themselves in another im portant direction in studying the ciieumstances of the death of the missing farmer’s wife, Mrs ’ Christobel Lakey. There i IS no doubt that the search for Mr Lakey, will be'continued with the same thoroughness which has characterised the activities over the p.xst five weeks, hut the investigators are not forgetful of the fate of Mrs Lakey. In the past week many more articles have been forwarded to Auckland for examination. The pathologist at the Auckland Hospital, Dr Walter Gil* mour, has been busily engaged on test ing the material. It is understood that much progress has been made with the examinations, but they a>’e expected to proceed for several weeks to eume. rh<, police are showing as much reticence regarding the, results s o far achieved as they are with the details of the actual search for Mr Lakeys body, but there is reason to expect some deep sive consequences.
The inquiries by detectives and constables continue to he made over a wide area, and the Naike district was included to-day. Points much further afield are receiving attention. There are several vehicles in use by the. police in camp at the Lakey >rarmhouse, hut none is more familiar than n red-colc.ured Post arid Telegraph van, which has served to convey maa-y exhibits. The van is known throughout the district as the “'Red Maria,” as a oo.ntr.-ftt to the traditional 1 Black Maria.’’
