APPOINTING COMMISSIONERS
MINISTER MAY VISIT N.Z

CANBERRA, November 23-
In the House of Representatives the Minister of Commerce (Mr Stewart), replying to questions on trade represensation, said that '•legislation was being introduced before the l'eeess empowering the Ministry to appoint Trade Commissioners. At present the Government intends to make the appointments to New Zealand, Bataviq, ,and Shangrai. Mr. Stewart stated that the Federal Ministry Was prepared to go to the utmost limit to correct, the unfair position created by tlie subsidisation of United States shipping. “We asked the New Zealand Government to cooperate with us, and we had conversations with representatives of the American Government. We hope a remedy will not he delayed for long.”
It is possible that a Commonwealth Minister will visit New Zealand during the recess, in connection with this matter.
