PHILADELPHIA, November 21

Unrest that had prevailed in the Eastern State Penitentiary hero for many' months broke’out into ►open rebellion to-day. Seventy-five of the convicts fired several- of the buildings.

Others among the thirteen hundred inmates fired mattresses. Many prisoners attempted to escape over the walls. Five hundred police, armed with machine guns, were hurriedly organised and they surrounded the prison, and then, from the walls, they fired into the rioting men. 'This firing finally subdued them.

None escaped. The number ol injured, if any, has not been revealed.
