RELIEF ALLOCATION
BOARD UNDER SUSPICION (ter Brett Association — Copyright.) OAMARU, November 20. There was a represeiltative meeting of the Oamaru Hospital Board, the Chamber of Commerce, the Retailers’ Committee and business men this afternoon. The meeting strongly protested against the. reduced allocation to provincial towns for unemployment relief.* The Minister, Ifiid advised through the Member for Oamaru, that Oamaru's allocation was only 5 per cent lower than on the basis operating in October, and that there was no possibility of reinstating the October business'. The Mayor (Mr Cooney), pointed out that Oamaru now had the summer allocation, which, last year, was commenced in February. He considered that a searching inquiry should be made into the workings of the Unemployment Board.
The-meeting unanimously resolved to make strong protest and to take action with other provincial towns to place the fullest information .before the Government.
