Candidates elected inciude all De Rivera’s Fascist deputies, Barrette, director of the Fascist newspaper, and also Count Itomanones and Premier Barrios, while those defeated are Albornoz (Foreign Affairs), Aveilo (Interior), Feced (Agriculture). MADRID, (November 21.
In the Spanish elections, there have been six of the Cabinet members defeated.
The Premier, Senor Barrios, has been unseated.
Senor Clara Oampoamor, a member of the Radicals, and a Deputy, who mafnly was ■ responsible for women’s suffrage, has been unseated.
REASON FOR DEFEAT. SOCIALISTS POOR SHOWING. LONDON, November 21. The London “Daily Express’ ” Madrid correspondent attributes the . defeat of tlho Socia 1 islt-Republficton I Parties largely to the brutal manner in which tbe new state, has by thorn been separated from the Church, Their destruction of the Convents and. the Monnstries, and their persecution of the nuns .and the monks was a nightmare for the. Catholic women of Spain. Moreover, agricultural reforms which the Republican leaders had promised have not materialised. There is now 750 thousand acres less land under cultivation in Spain, than there was at the time of King Alfonso’s reign. . A WINNING PARTY. MADRID, November 21. Senor Gil Bobles, the thirty-four year old leader of /the Popular Action Party, is jubilant at the Party’s success at the election.
