■SUPERVISORS’ REPORT,

J. Cooper reported on inspection of Kumara applications, and progress of work at Blue. Spur .area. In connection with the latter shaft sinking wag progressing with encouraging result*, Some 50;chains of old race had 'been cleaned, which would enable some likely places tp be tested.—Received.

j J. H, Harris reported for the fort- I night on the upper Humphreys ■ area. ' I The new shaft had been continued to i a depth of 22 feet, but the ground was ' puggy and required timbering which de- ; layed progress. Five men had joined up during the week and had cut 95; chains of track to open a new area for prospecting.—Received. j J J- D. McQuilkin, in charge on the 1 Kanieri fall, reported the progress of | shafting and the return of a few fine I colours. In .another quarter some good indications had been encountered, but the ground was 'hard. An abandoned shaft was found, and the spoil tested, ' but without result.—Received. ; The .chairman reported the option for the prospecting period had been ex-j tended which was very gratifying in all the circumstances. Additional men could be put on if they were forthcoming locally.

Francis, Christchurch,' application for subsidy to do general prospecting by divining theory.—Declined. From Jack Rochford, Dillmanstown, application for .subsidy to prospect at Dillmanstown.—Held over for further particulars.

Accounts to the amount of £2 7s 7d were recommended for' payment. J The chairman displayed some rough gold secured by a party at Taipo, &fid in view of the find, and other developmerits likely to take part in that local-' ity, ho had made application for a special reservation : of an area for subsidised workers, and thi s was being

arranged. There was now ample room for other men to prospect if they cared to go into the b a ck country, which offered attractions for payable fields. The Board had assisted lately in 'reconditioning the access track, and there was a cage across the Taipo river to facilitate crossing in all weathers. Dr Bell in one of his reports had given an encouraging laocount of h:s work in the locality referred to, where several reef outcrops had been located. The chairman’s action. in the matter was approved with thanks. I When the Humphreys survey and prospecting are further advanced, it was resolved to make a visit to the territory. j The meeting rose at 8.15 p.m.
