CHANGE IN SEX
''GIRL’S TRANSFORMATION
APPEAL MADE TO SCIENTISTS
OAKLAND (Cal.), November 1
Spurred by a girl’s tearful pleas to save her from “becoming a man,” specialists applied .an adrenal diet today to arrest the startling transformation of a once attractive young woman into a person with decidedly masculine characteristics and tendencies.
The girl’s once wavy golden hair became brown and coarse. During the strange change ishe developed a moustache and iside-whiskers which made shaving necessary daily. H 61 ’ rounded feminine contours altered into broad shoulders and ridged muscles, nnd her hands changed from the soft flesh of .femininity into masculine hardness.
The specialists attending the patient requested anonymity, consenting to •iriake the strange case public only in the interests of medical informal-ion.
Two yeans ago the transformation started. Frequently, said the girl, she found herself doing things a man would do in certain circumstances. Her gestures are decidedly masculine. The examination showed disturbance of the delicate balance between the thyroid and adrenal glands, leaving the girl temporarily speechless. Then they -put her on the adrenal diet.
“It should not ‘be understood,” the attending specialist said, “that this woman i s ’becoming a man. In fact, it is only the-‘characteristics of a man she is assuming. . “It i s a rare case. In our years of experience we ■'•have hever -seen anything like it.”
