FOR ANTARCTICA
BYRD EXPEDITION
DUNEDIN, November 15
In a radio message to Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., local agents for the Byrd expedition ( Rear-Admiral Byrd hae stated that there is a possibility of the Antarctic expedition ships, Jacob ißuppert and Bear of O'kland, being unable to call at Dunedin ’before leaving New Zealand for the ice barrier. It is explained by Roar- 'dmii’al Byrd that this is ’because of the necessity for the ships to call at Wellington and is also portly due to the delay that has occurred on the voyage .from America. Tho Jacob Ruppert is expected to reach Wellington on December 3. The Bear of Oakland has passed through the Panama Canal, and is making the best possible speed to New Zealnd. The manager of T,'pley and Co. has communicated with Rear-Admiral Byrd in an endeavour to persuade him to bring the ehips to Dunedin, even if only for a brief visit, in order to load supplies which would otherwise have to be transported to Wellington.
