GRAVE CONCERN BEING FELT,

WESTPORT, November 16,
Duller bar is gravely concerning the public of the district, and the trade of the port is being seriously hampered , even comparatively small vessels having required the services of the tug to tow them across the bar, which is stated to have been very shallow for some time. At high-water on Wednesday the depth was in. the vicinity of 15 feet, the tide being at 8.30 a.m. almost a spring tide. A depth which would be considered reasonably normal is 22ft or 23 feet.
The following telegram was sent to the Prime Minister by the Mayor of | Westport (Mr J. Kilkenny): ‘‘On be- | half of the citizens of Westport, I wish to inquire why information concerning the Westport harbour is not made public. I suggest you take the public into your confidence and make harbour matters available to them. The present serious postion could be avoided by the employment of another dredge.”
