BULLER CANDIDATE’S CHALLENGE
WELLINGTON, November 13
Of the 500 or 600 persons who attended a meeting in the Town Hall today to hear an address by Mr lan Simspn, > who Is contesting the- Buller seat, many anticipated a lively hour, for Mr Simson had challenged the Rt. Hon. J. G. 'Coates, Sir Henry Buckleton, Sir William Hunt, Dr Campbell Begg, and others to meet him o n the platform to discuss various subjects. The challenge wa«. not accepted. -Mr Simson hag style distinctly his own. There were no interjections. The speaker was -given a vote of thanks.
In an address' at Westport ’last week Mr Simson said he V;would .go to Wellington,and speak in the Town Ball, on the exchange rate, the sales tax, the unemployment tax, and the Central Bank. He had challenged Mr ,Oo?tes and Sir HeriTy Buckle-ton, general manager of the Bank of New. Zealand, to discuss these questions, he said, and if he failed to gain the verdict of the audience he would resign in favour of Mr P. G. Webb for the Buller seat.
