SHARK AND MAMMAL’S BATTLE LATTER'S CARCASE WASHED UP. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 12. The fight between a shai’k and a sea ■monster witnessed off New Plymouth a few daj s ago has been recalled by the discovery of a large sea mammal washed up on the beach between Waihi and Ohawe, near Hawera. It was at first thought to be a whale, but closer 'examination proved it to be of the dolphin type. It is nearly 30ft. long, and is badly scarred. It is believed the monster i s the one seen in the fight, with •a thresher shark of Moturoa and that ;it ultimately fell a victim to the shark’s attack.

The battle .was seen raging for three-quarters of an hour and finally the two monsters disappeared behind Saddleback' Island. At the time tlm opinion was expressed that the fight would continue for probably two or three days -until either the whale was overcome Or the thresher withdrew from exhaustion.
