Mr McNamara -jalso represented New Zealand at the 1929 conference. COUNCIL LEADER. Tlie Hon. It. Masters, Minister for | Education, will succeed Sir James Parr I as leader of the Legislative Council, | the Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. G. iW. Forbes, announced to-night. The j position was made vacant through the : appointment of Sir James as High | Commissioner for New Zealand in Lonf don.

Mr Masters was acting-leader of the council in 1930, and subsequently became leader for a short period befoi-p the formation of the Coalition at the end of 1931.

It is interesting to note that Sir James Parr’s departure will reduce the membership of the Legislative Council to exactly half its full establishment. Only 20 members will remain of the 40 for which provision is made in the constitution.
