OPERATIC SOCIETY

MEETING HELD AT HOKITIKA

£3O NET PROFIT FROM “BETTY.”

A meeting of the committee and officials of the Hokitika Amateur operatic Society was held on Tuesday evening when the secretary’s report on the production of the musical comedy “Betty” was considered. Generally speaking the production was a success in every way, and, as a result, there is a nett profit of approximately £3O to distribute to the various causes agreed upon, and which include the-, Westland Hospital ■and the. Ladies’- Belief Committee. Expenses were kept at a minimum tne major item being £3l for royalties etc. due to the copyright holders. After a full discussion the secretary was authorised to distribute the proceeds as authorised. In this connection the chairman emphasised the fact that the customary payment of honorariums had been discontinued by the '.society in the last two years with the result, that last- year £25 had been paid to the Mayor’s Relief Fund, and approximately £3O would be available for benefits this year. Presentations bad been made to Miss Anne P. Duff, the producer, Miss Giese the pianist,, and Mr Lindsay the conductor, and the committee desired to record their appreciation for the manner in which members had voluntarily subscribed for these marks of appreciation. After the disposal of formal business a general discussion took place on matters of organisation and proposals for next, year. On the motion of the chairman a sub-committee was set up to report to a general meeting in February next with concrete suggestions.

Votes of thanks were accorded Miss Duff (producer), Miss M. Giese (pianist), and the scenery-committee.
