ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET BEEF SHOWS A DECLINE (Per Pre s s Association, Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, November 15. Oxi the whole to-day’s live stock sale at Addington was satisfactory, the only decline being one in beef prices, of about 2s . per 1001 b, or .£l per head for several sorts. There was a large yarding of store
sheep for this time of the year. Keen competition prevailed, with a free sale throughout for all lots. . There was a full yarding of fat sheep, mostly from the Chatham Islands, practically’- all being shorn sheep. Th e markets opened firm, and it was maintained throughout, wether mutton realising from 3jd to 4‘ per lb. according to grade. Ewes sold at about -J-d per lb less. Values-generally were firmer.
Fat lambs were forward in good numbers. The market opened firm, with a slight easing at the concluding stages. Nevertheless values were well maintained, through consistent competition from one freezing company. Best heavy lambs sold to 26s Id, prime 20s 6d to 245, medium 17s to 20s, light from 14s.
Barely, five hundred bead of beef were yarded, though constituting more than the. requirements. Maiiy backward lots wei-e on offer, with only a small ’ percentage of prime quality beiiigyarded, Numerous North Island cattle were on offer. There was a general easing of 2s per hundred weight.’ Cows dropped by 20s per head on the concluding stages. Extra heavy bullocks sold at 22s fid per hundred prime handy * weights 23s to 255, heavy prime 21s to 235, light from 18s. Blest heifers sold from 23s to 2os per hundred pounds, prime 22s to 23s fid ; heavy cows 18s to 21s, prime 21s to 225, prime young cows 23s to 25s per hundred. The best price for bullocks* was £l2 17s fid, for heifers £9 I 12s fid, and for coxvs £8 12s fid.
There was a heavy yarding of fat pigs. Despite . .this the market was firm, values being maintained throughout. Porkers •' fetched 28s fid to 34s 6d; heavy 38s 6d to 44s 6d; choppers 33s 6d .to £3 3s 6d; baconers 42s fid to 48s 6d; heavy 54s 6d to £3, extra to £3 7s fid. Store pigs wer e firm.
