FINANCIAL AID
FOR FEDERAL WHEAT GROWERS
(Australian Press Association)
(Received this day at 10.50 a.m.) CANBERRA, November 15.
The Commonwealth Government, being reluctant to impose a tax on flour in order to assist wheat-growers, has requested the Commonwealth Bank to provide financial assistance. The bank has agreed to do so by the issue of treasury bils of two and a half million pounds, redeemable from revenue within the next three years. This has relieved the Ministry from the difficult position which threatened owing to the great pressure exerted by the Country party as well as Labour forces, which are anxious to extend their influence in the country.
