MOUNTAINEERING.
(To tho Editor). Sir,—Under the above heading you published a paragraph describing what was stated to be the first traverse of the Kaiserin Victoria range. Not that the climb presents any great difficulties, but for the sake of historical accuracy, I should like to state that in 1895 Mr W. Wilson of the Westland Survey Department, erected trig stations on two of the peaks in this range, and in 1900 the late Mr Charles St-on or and a friend, traversed tho whole of the range, including the peaks mentioned, from the old iron hut at the terminal face of the Fox Glacier to the summit of .Caskill Peak overlooking the Blackburn Saddle. The Survey Department’s maps show these two trig stations. Apologising for taking up your space, I am etc, E. TEICHELMANN,
