MRS HOLLAND FAREWELLED

WESTPORT, November 15.
One of the most representative gatherings of womenfolk field in Westport met to-day in a farewell function to Mrs H. E. Holland, widow of the late Labour leader, prior to her departure for Dunedin and thence to Australia, her future place of residence. Presentations were made by the Mayoress on behalf of women admirers and also from Labour Party committees. unemployed. •GISBORNE, Novemebr 15. A meeting attended by seventy business men marked a complete unanimity of sympathy with unemployed, and the opinion that the men were entitled to relief on the same basis as men of the cities. It was unanimously decided that Mayors of other provincial towns similarly affected be asked to co-operate in a united deputation to tlie Minster. FLOOD PREVENTION. GISBORNE, November 15. As part of a scheme for flood prevention, prepared by the Public Works .engineer, sixty men will lie given employment, grubbing willows from the Waipaoa River banks. The lower ton miles of the river is to be tackled by special machinery which has been imported to facilitate grubbing.
