FIRE DAMAGE

OUTBREAK IN MARBLE BAR. (Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, October 30. A restaurant in Cuba, Street, known as the Marble Bar, was considerably damaged by fire early this mornng. A policeman gave the alarm. .Four occupants cf a room above escaped in their night attire, oil to the verandah of the Hotel Bristol adjoining, in which three boarders in the northern wing, were almost above the seat of the fire, and were driven from their rooms by fire, smoke and water, onp losing ail his possessions. Good work by the Brigade saved the Hotel Bristol, which along with Marble Bar is owned by G. and F. London of Petone, and insured in -the State office. Joseph Arnerich, proprietor of Marble Bar is covered by a policy in the Norwich Union for £2l GO on furniture, fittings and stock. AN INCENDIARY OUTBREAK ASHBURTON, October 30. A fire, apparently of incendiary origin, occurred at William Morgan’s stables and outbuildings at Methveh on Saturday night. A building with four traction engine trailers was destroyed. Insurances in the Liverpool. London Globe office, buildings £l6O, waggons £3OO. An adjoining house was unoccupied. IA peculiar feature is that the • remains of a gig in the stall were identified as having been removed from a- section in>an adjoining street, and the seat of the fire was apparently about the gig.
