CONVICTS ESCAPE
FURIOUS BATTLE ENSUES. MASSACRE AND FIGHTING. (Per Press Association Copyright .) HELSTNGFORS, October 29. A furious battle followed the of a trainload of convicts at Vologda, en route to ‘the Archangel timber camps. The occupants of one wagon broke loose on arrival at a station, overpowered and disarmed the guards, liberated their fellow prisoners. They set fire to tho local police station and 'massacred the inmates. Troops hastened from the town and stormed the station buildings where a fierce engagement occurred. Hundreds were killed and wounded on both sides. Many of the convicts fled to the forests where the soldiers are pursuing them.
