TREASURE QUEST
ANCIENT EGYPTION RELICS. ' LONDON, October 14. Two Englishmen are leading an expedition in a frantic bid to uncover ancient relijs of Egyptian civilisation before the waters of the Nile cover them. Mr Walter B. Emery, of Great Crosby, Liverpool, a former Liverpool University student, and director under the Egyptian Department of Antiquities oi the Archeological survey of Nubia, left Birkenhead in August for Egypt to examine the upper reaches of the Nile, where 200 miles will be covered by the rising waters pent up by the new dam at Assouan. He will have 400 Egyptians working under him in a feverish search, and interesting secrets of the past are expected to bo revealed. Air Emery, who is only 30, is accompanied by his wife, who will assist in thp work. Ho was to be joined by Mr L. P. Kirwan. of London. The damming of the Nile for irrigation has already resulted in the inundation of historical remains in Egypt The famous temple island of Philae is entirely submerged fo'* the greater part of the year.
