The Zeppelin is scheduled to stay in America until Saturday, when it will start on its return flight to Friedriehshafen. VALUE OF SMITHY’S FLIGHT. LOYD ON, October 26. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s great fight has important lessons for students of the Empire's air defence, said Air-Commodore J. Ji. Chamier to-day. The flight, he said, had demonstrated that the development of 'the Air Force would enable Britain, in the event of threatened invasion, of any portion of the Empire, to have defending ai>' squadrons there within, a week. An enemy woind not risk landing from the .sea, within range of a strong ai r force, which could thus tide over the period till the Navy arrived. This was impossible, .however, .while Britain remained the world’s fifth air power, 'Smithy had shown the value 'and necessity of building up Empire air forces and developing routes.
