“SUN’S” BREACH OF PRIVILEGE. 'MINISTERS’ .SALARY COMMENT. (Per Pns>,ss Association — Copyright.) -CANBERRA, October 27. Criticism of the “Sunday Sun” and the "Daily Sun’’ on their comment on Federal Ministers’ salaries, was revived 5 n the House of Representatives to-day on the matter of privilege. Mr Ward, of the Lang Group .asked the House to deal with the printer .and publisher of .Sun Newspapers, Ltd., who yesterday wore adjudged guilty of contempt. He moved accordingly, declaring that the Sun had aggravated its- offence by publishing a sub-leader yesterday of the most offensive char, acte-r,.. amounting to a challenge to Parliament. Mr Parkhill, acting-Prime Minister, urged Mr Ward to withdraw his motion, promising that the Government would investigate the matter, and would ascertain who >was actually responsible -for these articles, as it possibly wag the directorate; and appro-

rigte action would be taken at- a later date. •Mr Parkhill emphasised that the printer was apparently innocent, as also were the writers of the articles, who were merely fulfilling the instructions. Often they wrote against theii" own convictions. He added that the object of these publications was the • pursuit rof that “bowelless commercialism” which had •characterised the whole history of the company. Mr Ward, however, .refused to withdraw his motion, and the debate was adjourned. '• Some members also criticised the “Bulletin,” and other newspapers. Protests from all over Australia are reaching Canberra regarding what is ■now termed a “salary grab.”
