ANOTHER ON INJURED LIST

HAMILTON, October 20

A serious accident occurred at a level crossing, at Huntly yesterday afternoon, resulting -jn the death of Constable James Shields. Constable David Robertson, who was also in the car, was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, and his condition is satisfactory, following an operation. . Constable Robertson, who was 50 years old, married, with three children, was in charge ol' the Huntly police station.

Constable Shields, aged 36 years, married, with one child, is also stationed at Huntly.

The pair Were going to .Ohinewai to make an inquiry. Robertson was driving a light sedan five seater car, which was struck by the Rotorua-Auckland express at 2 p.ni.

The vehicle was carried about 60 yards. The injured men were admitted to the hospital. Shields died an hour and a half later.

The crossing is considered particularly dangerous and inadequately, protected.
