MR J. O’BRIEN’S REQUEST. WELLINGTON, October 24.Notice was given in the House this afternoon by Mr J. O’Brien (Lab., Westloind) of hi s intention to ask the Minister of Lands if he will put into operation the compulsory clauses of the Small Farms (Relief of Unemployment) Act, and acquire land that is not being adequately used for the purpose of settling unemployed workers on itMr O’Brien said that some of the best land on the West ooast of the South Island was held in large areas, a,nd a considerable amount of it was practically unused at the present time.
