At Greymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday, William Allen was charged with driving a motor icar in Mawhera Quay on October lb. without being the holder of a, driver’s license, and also that the ear ws' equipped with defective hand brakes. Defendant was fined 10s. with 10 s court costs, on the choree of driving without a license, and ss, with 10s costs,' for having a defective hand brake. Thomas Steele was similarly charged with driving a motor vehicle in Mawhev.a Quay on October 2, without being the holder of a driver’s license, and was fined 10s. land .costs 10s. Ladies! The dredge is now well forward and practically awaits only the electric power for the final adjustments. Mr A I. Williamson, the dredgemas.ter, is now in charge. The hydro power station and equipment is well advanced .and will be ready at is expected, during the coming month, The plant is situated on Cook’s river flat, below Lake Lyttle. The pipe lino i,s about a mile loug and there is a fall of about 700 feet Jo r power purposes. The intake of the race is tunnelled, and this is n°w being piped for security. The plant is being erected by Derry, Wright and Sal mar of Wellington, Mr Wheeler being the engineer in charge. The transmission line to the dredge is completed almost, tynd telephone connections with the dredge and power house are now being made. Mr Richardson, late of the Marlborough Power Board, is the electrician in charge. The high climb to Lake Lyttle presents a splendid scenic wow, and will be a new source of interest to visitors to the Fox Glacier at Weheka. which is nearby. Spring Cleaning?
