EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The Canterbury,Education,-Board met at Christchurch on Friday last. Mr Wild . moved: “That the resolution passed at the August meeting, adopting the report in which it was agreed to support the Nelson Board’s proposal to extend its boundaries by the inclusion ’of .Marlborough, be resc’ndecl.”.—Carried. Mr Thompson, moved :—“That clause 24 of the Board’s standing orders be altered by the deletion of the. words “at a previous meeting of the Board” and the substitution of the words, 'fourteen days prior to the meeting.’” —Carried.
In reply, to the Board’s suggestion correspondence was read , from the trustees 0.l the state of the-late,Mr-W. J. Butler pointing out that their powers in connection with the bequest for encouragcin.ent pf grass and fodder development .were limited by. the Will to tile provid ng of prizes or prize money, so that therefore whatever money was paid over would have, to .be applied in this manner.. It was accordingly resolved to request’the Board’s sub-com-mittee originally appointed for the mxrppse to submit fresh proposals to the trustees. ■■ . ■ ,i ; ; - •

The members advised, that after an exhaustive investigation it Was Tound that the outbreak- Was. rn accidental one with no suspicion of. incend'arism. Jt was' resolved that the- report', be adopteci and an application forwarded, to' the Department, for a , grant for the replacement- of the building.
