Doctor Schatz, an expert chemist expressed the opinon that self-lighting fluid caused the fire, Vanderlubbo merely climbing into the window in order to distract attention from the real incendiaries, and take the blame himself. Sebatz added that be bad analysed remnants of the soot from the scene ; of the fire, and confirmed the theory that the incendiaries used a self-lighting fluid in which they soaked a firelighter, which was laid on cotton waste soaked with paraffin, causing spontaneous conflagration vi.non vapourisation.
