In view of the week-end holidays, the Westland Mining Executive will meet at 7.30 o’clock on Friday evening for .the transaction of the fortnightly business, instead of Saturday, the usual fortnightly meeting night.
Miss Alary Martin, daughter of Mr and Mrs J* T. ■Majrtta, formerly of Oxeymouth, and now of London, has been successful in passing the A.R.'C.M. (Performers’) Examination. Miss 'Martin received her musical training at the Convent of Mercy, Greymouth.
Work at the Gillespies dredge is proceeding steadily. The machinery will be in working order shortly. The construction of the power plant and transmission line is now well in hand and its completion will enable 'a- start to be made with dredging operations. At the present rate of progress an opening date is likely to be fixed for next month.
Dr. I. O. Mclntyre of the Christchurch Sanatorium, will be in attendance at the Westland Hospital, Hokitika, on Tuesday, October 24th, from 9.30 a.m. for the purpose of consulting patients.—Advt.
Miss Gardiner, the well-known alpinist, is again in New Zealand, and will spend several weeks climbing in the Southern Alps, Guide E. Alack of the Welieka (Fox Glacier) staff, will be chief guide for the high climbing. A bivouac is being arranged for on Pioneer Ridge which will be of great assistance in facilitating high range work, as the location is wthin closer striking distance of the ten thousand feet peaks to be attempted.
